Gary was such a fun classmate.  I remember since he lived on a farm that he could drive earlier than 16 and I remember his pickup truck.  I am happy that I was able to see him at our 50th reunion.

It continues to be sas to lose another classmate.  Rest in Peace, Karen

When I was a pastor in Hastings, NE back in the 70's my good friend Gary was the manager of the Clayton House Hotel in downtown Lincoln.  The hotel was just a few blocks from Memorial Stadium and the hotel had a three story parking lot.  I often had a confirmation class on Sat. morning, so Donna and I couldn't go to Lincoln until after class which would get us there right before kick-off.  Gary always saved a parking space in his parking lot for us so we could get to the game on time.  He has been a great friend since the beginning of our high school days up to the very end of his life.  I visited with Gary a couple of times in the last month of his life.  He shared with me about his faith and everlasting life.  As Gary save a parking space for me, I am confident God has saved a space for Gary in his eternal life.  I will miss a great classmate and friend.

What a beautiful end-of-life testament to Gary Bartels by Pastor Duane Queen, Gary's high school friend. Knowing that Gary was a man of faith and that he is now rejoicing in his new body in heaven with Jesus reminds us of the perfect ending to his story -- complete with his own parking space. Thank you, Duane, for sharing the most important factor of Gary's life, lived and celebrated here on earth. Thank God for all those he loved and influenced during his years here.

Gary was a great guy. Always friendlly and positive. We had a lot of fun hunting together (had a run-in with the game warden once) and playing sports. We guys were always envious when he drove his pickup to school before we were old enough to drive. He will be missed. Rest In Peace Gary

I remember Gary as a great friend in high school and also in the youth group activities at Salem Lutheran Church. RIP Gary.
