VERNON'S OBITUARY

Vernon L. Witzka, 79, of South Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2020.  Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, June 8, 2020 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.  

Vernon was born the son of Emil and Dora (Carver) Witzka on April 9, 1941.  He graduated from South Sioux City High School and then honorably served his country in the United States Army.  Vernon married Darlene Senftleben on July 9, 1966.  They made their home in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Vernon was a welder for Wilson Trailer Company for over 40 years. 

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and boating with his beloved dog, Tommy.  He was also a huge Huskers fan.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Darlene Witzka of South Sioux City; daughters, Kristina Witzka of South Sioux City and Dawn Melero of California; brothers, Jim, Bill, Kevin, and Randy; sister, Shirley Thompson; grandchildren, Jayson, Jessica, Nicholas, Victoria, and Rosalie; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joe; his brothers and sisters; and his beloved dog, Tommy.

I am so sorry to lose another classmate. I didn't know Vernon had served in the military so thank you for your service, belated but heart felt.  Karen Burgess-Kohn

Carl Brobst

Vernon and I walked to school every day when we were in Junior High.  He was a good friend. we fished the missouri and hiked along it's woods together.  Then I moved to the south side of town and we kind of lost track of each other.  Rest In Peace Vernon....    Carl Brobst

I was sorry to read Vernon's obituary in the SC Journal. I remember Vernon as a very quiet individual. He and his family lived next door to my grandparents.RIP Vernon.
